Problem-Solution
The lack of
creativity has been increasing in the past several years. Children and adults
are not putting much attention to art skills or knowledge. Since I was little,
my middle school teachers have been motivating me to do better with
illustrations or neatness of my handwriting which is also part of art font. I
personally have no problem with imagination or creativity, but I have seen many
of my partners struggle on assignments because of the nonexistence of
creativity while drawing or illustrating an image. Also, there is a variant on
the lack of knowledge students acquire in general education during high school.
For example, high school students that take art classes don’t learn the general
basics of art history. While it appears to be a controversial fact that people
are losing creativity and not learning enough from the General Education System
of art.
Creativity
is an issue that most of the people absence while they try to create a piece of
art. When I was little, I noticed my friends struggling in art classes. Let's
say, the assignment was to present an ecosystem. They would usually go online
and search for images and print the images. On the other hand, for me, this was
my chance to be creative and have a board where I could draw, paint, and add whatever
I needed to show to give a good presentation. In my old educational system,
teachers would force students to create their own work. Students would have to
choose their own model and style where imagination does not have boundaries.
Another
problem with expansion of creativity is the absence of information. There are more
than a few cases where people are not fascinated about art because they do not
have enough information to hook their attention. Education before college
matters as much as the kindergarten educational system. Art is not all about drawing, painting, or
decorating the paper. On November 3, Van Gogh said: “I’m drawing a great deal
and think it’s getting better” (1881). There are many ways to see this quote,
but when drawing and knowledge are a priority creativity grows. Together,
learning and creativity is the only way to become better at art. There are
several ways to address the problem of absence of art knowledge. One way of
addressing the problem would be learning more information about the nature of
each art activity to see what is better for you when making art.
In
conclusion, if you are struggling with dealing with an assignment where drawing
or illustration is the main idea, don’t worry. There are so many classes where
they can teach you styles and perspectives of how to jump to work on your
creation. I would recommend taking an introductory art class that illustrates
various forms of art. Because, there is no fun if you don’t know where the
general ideas and stories come from. Therefore, the solution to the deficiency
of knowledge and creativity can be fixed through.
I really enjoyed this topic, Kevin, since I've seen many of the same things you have with students not always being comfortable embracing their creativity. I also have to confess that I, myself, have been guilty at times of being too quick to find an image online to include with something like a birthday card rather than having the confidence to draw one myself. I absolutely agree that creativity is something we can and should all cultivate and I appreciate your reminder here. Maybe when I'm finally done with my PhD, I'll sign up for an art class!
